Question World Class T-5

Has anyone ever figured out a way to mount this tranny (say a 86 Mustang tranny) to a FE (390 ci)?

If you have a stick bell, it should bolt on.

Check out these folks:

Also this guy works with TKO's:

More info here:

Seller here, not much good to you in Al, but hey, support your local freight company:

If you get one out of a Mustang at the scrappy, be sure to get the right one.

Go here for the chart. Watch out for those 4 cylinder jobs. You will be over the rated torque on a T5 out of a Mustang, so buy two or three:

I have a 3 on the tree. I know I'll have to convert the clutch over to cable and probably do some crossmember adjusting. By what I'm reading on the chart (Thanks), if I get a tranny out off of a V-8 after 1990, I should be golden. I can't get over how much difference there is in the gear ratios for 1st gear. 3.35 is close to a granny low, isn't it?

A ZF has either a 4.14 (diesel) or 5.72 first, so 3.35 isn't that low.

Your engine is close to 400 lb-ft of torque, isn't it? Depending on how you drive and how heavy your rig is, you may or may not have good luck.

I'm thinking of putting one of these behind my 300 in my van as the grand canyon between 2nd and 3rd in mine makes for poor driveability in many circumstances.

The way I read these T 5 sites, you can bolt it right to your bell and your existing clutch will work as is.

Cross member and drive shaft is another question.

Good luck.

The best WC is only rated for 300-325 # torque so if its going behind a 390 you better drive like granny.

I know plenty of guys who put those trannys behind hot flatheads in fat fender rods with sticky rubber. Fall off the clutch once and BANG

If you have a decent rear ratio and dont need OD, a 60's 4sp toploader will be a rugged choice as they were built to go behind even the hottest FE's.

I want the overdrive and I don't off road. I'm still playing with the 4 speed idea. The only thing I know for sure is that I want to get away from 3 speeds, whether manual or automatic.
