Thanks to all for the input. I finally got over myself and installed a JVC that I got a great deal on (scratch and dent sale= $100 cd player for $20 in perfect condition with a messed up package) in the dash. I appreciate everyone's info and thank ya'll for kinda saving me from myself!

my problem is somewhat realted to the last one. i have a 97 f150, and recently installed a 7" lcd monitor. i have a pioneer head unit. they are not attached as one. my question is, is it possible to have a head unit and an in-dash dvd player? im not too worried if the dvd player doesnt go in the dash, i got plenty of places for it. as of now, i have a home dvd player and a power supply, which is a hassle, and doesnt look to neat. can the dvd player AND head unit be done, or do i need to get rid of the head unit?

an info would be great. thanks

Sure, They make DVD players that are stand alone. They share the same speakers and amp if any.

Just like a home system.

If your just trying to tap into the vehicles speakers then all you would need to do is splice into the speaker wires and whenever you played the dvd player turn the HU off, or (if the dvd player doesnt have a built-in speaker amp, or you want the speaker controls at the HU) then if you have an aux input, on the HU, try to plug the dvd output into that.

Ok know you already got a new HU and honestly that is the route I would have gone and basically the best one if SQ is a concern. If anyone really wants to keep the stock radio I would say FM modulator and cd changer would be the easiest route but not the best SQ wise although they sound decent. For amps use the speaker outputs and tap into that wire and get a converter or amp with line level inputs. I use a converter on the truck I have likes this but my amp also has line level inputs. I would install a aftermaket HU with the harness's you can buy or some places give you free with purchase of the HU so you don't have to cut into the original wiring and can put the stock hu back in.
