I was thinking of gettng a power programmer for my 03 V10 but had a few questions.
1) is it woth the $? any real world improvment?
2) any affect on MPG... usually more HP = less MPG
3) which brand is the best?
4) anything I should know about them from those that have used them?, I hate to get any ugly suprises.
Thanks in advance for your help.
I didn't have a programmer but I did have the Diablo chip. I didn't notice any improvement in hp. The only thing I really noticed was that it shifted harder and eliminated the rev limiter. So when I pegged the throttle, it wouldn't shift until it hit 6k rpm and then would SLAM into gear. I didn't like that at all, and with towing, if I hit a mountain and have to down shift, this thing would sit around 4k rpm pulling. I've thought about getting the programmer but didn't want to run super unleaded to get the (noticeable) hp gains. Gas is still a bit too much out here in AZ, but at least it's dropping. I paid $1.93 yesterday for regular unleaded. I think our super is around $2.15 or so. Still too rich for my blood.
Hypertech and Superchip programmers I believe are the "big dogs" of programmers. They have alot of functionality from what I've read. If you can find a friend that has one, see if he'll throw a program on your truck (he'll probably have to change his back to stock to do it). If you like it, go get one, if not, then you haven't spent a dime!
