The Tin Cat

LAST EDITED ON 16-Aug-01 AT 11:09 PM (EST)[p]Let me first of point out that i am new to these compture\Emmision vehicles. My 1988 Ranger 2.9 just started making a semi loud rattle-tin noise, that i belive has came from the cat, and the question is can i just remove them? I know that there is some sort of O2 sensor but that is above the cats. and yes i know that it may not pass emmissions that way be where i live that is not a problem. Are there any mechinical problems that will show up? and what may they be?

Thank you

P.S I will be swapping a 302 in place down the line, so i dont want to invest alot of money into an exhast system intill then.

The most common fix for rattling catalyst heat shields is to take two large hose clamps connected together and wrap them around the cat and clamp them down. 1988? usually they first become loose after 3-4 years.
