Tranny Trouble

Put in a Hypertech chip and the performance was great. I have a 2001 Ex Limited. Pulled some metal roofing to meet a customer and drop a trailer and pull off. 2nd gear broke. I had over 98000 miles and it was $3400.00 to fix. I pulled to chip off and will NOT put another back in. I am going to put some bigger tires and wheels and a bigger exhaust. Has anybody heard of any problems like that this.\

This has happened to a few people before. Don't get me wrong, but did you have any gauges (i.e. trans temp, egt (a.k.a. pyrometer), boost) to tell you if things were getting too hot?

People have tranny and engine problems like this because the engine and/or transmission got too hot or just decided to quit. Gauges are critical when you have a chip or tuner program installed. Any company that makes and/or sells a chip highly recommends gauges, an aftermarket air intake system, and an aftermarket exahust system to accomodate the power (and heat) the chip adds. Also, depending on what kind of chip you installed, towing is generally not recommended unless you have guages to monitor things as you drive. A bigger exhuast system will help keep the EGTs (Exhaust Gas Temperature) down as to not blow your engine and your turbo. I don't really know what else to tell you besides, you've learned a hard lesson; move on and become a stronger and smarter man because of it.
