I don't see how this problem could possibly be concidered "normal. Mine didn't start doing it till 25000. It acts like it puts a terrible load on the drive train everytime it happens. It is totally unacceptable. If they cannot fix this problem I will do everything in my power to return this truck to Ford. Surely someone out there has had this problem and had it resolved by now.

My truck does the same thing. I only have 4,000 miles on it, original factory oil still, but the truck is 11 months old. So I would say that this isnt something that is caused by wear, cause mine just sits during the week and waits for me to come home on weekends and play.

If it flutters then if I accelerate it will downshift then run normal. I can get it to flutter when empty but only on very steep inclines and only when the boost gets to 10-12 once it is above 13psi it will not do it. I have talked with the service dept. and they are very willing to fix it but they have no clue on what it may be. Has any one else had this problem?

What RPM is the engine running at when this happens?

1900-2000 but I do not think that is an issue as if the load is big enough then the boost will increase to 14 or more and not flutter, it is only at lower loads and boost at 10-13psi. My service dept thinks that it has to be an issue with the egr pulsating or something similar to that. It seems strange that some of the 03-04's do this and lots of the 05's and the change the egr in the 05's. I bet it has to do with the egr. Also some one was calling this a turo-fart and I agree the turbo's will have a fart when boost is high then the throttle is released as there is nowhere for that psi to go but this is at a load and constant throttle position. If that is a "nature of the beast" then all diesels should do it and Ford engineers have alot of work ahead of them. Well that still may be the case!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been working with the diesel shop supervisor at my dealership here in Cali. for the past couple of weeks now. I took him out in the truck with the WDS plugged in so that he could monitor the trucks systems when it did the 'shudder' He recorded the 'event' several times during the ride and after reviewing the recordings with the diesel and the transmission techs, they decided that it was the torque converter slipping. They took it apart and replaced the torque converter and tested line pressures(they were higher than normal, not low as would be expected) and returned the truck to me 'fixed'. The truck began doing the 'shudder' the same day. I contacted the dealership. I now have an appointment to meet with a rep. from Navistar and a tech from Ford on Thursday to see what they can come up with. Where can I go from here if they can't find the problem.

T3, I thought I had posted my result on this thread but I guess it was the "cuts out in overdrive" thread. Anyway, mine has been fixed for a good month. Your symptoms are exactly the same as mine were. The trouble was a sticking egr valve. Once it was replaced, the problem never reoccured. Good luck.

tyners3 and gip,
I'm going in tomorrow for an appointment at the dealer to get a reflash and the mechanic is scheduled to pull the egr to check it out. I'll post the results from this appt. as to the cut out prob. It sounds like gip has it figured out. I'll pass on this info from you gip. Thanks for the update. It may come in real handy. Fingures crossed!

If you got 14.5 mpg pulling your trailer you are lucky. WHen I pull mine which might be near 10k lbs (not sure) I get 8mpg and 9mpg at best. How the heck do you get 14. I dont even get that just driving around. My pickup also shifts gears on every little hill it can find, like tuggingafiver said. definitely need the 7.3 in the new bodys

I have a 05 f350. Does anyone know any trick to manipulate the tranny to were you can lock it out of overdrive like you could on the old pickups?
