Do you have an aftermarket exhaust? and do you get it at the same RPMs?

Nice truck btw...the black on black is awesome.

Turbo drone is a very noticable low frequency vibration. It sounds sort of like the noise you get on a big block gasser with a big carb wide open. It only occurs at a very narrow range of rpms. It is caused by the engine firing and the turbo pedestal going into a vibration. It doesn't show up just at that rpm range, you have to be adding throttle. For me it was at 60 mph 1750 rpm and going up a slight incline. So as you add throttle to keep up speed/rpm, it starts the moan. First time it happened I sat upright and my wife said what is that?

Hi all,

My '04 with a 12/03 engine build date, with all original flashes, does the "up idle speed thing" after about a minute. It usually jumps to about 900-1000 rpms, then drops when I touch the brake or accelerator pedal....I have never let it idle more than about 5 minutes to see what it will eventually do??

I have noticed that it runs much smoother after a 5 minute idle warm up. Of course, it doesn't get too cold here in the So Cal desert, so I can't compare with all you cold climate owners. I still believe that all motors should have at least a 2-3 minute warm-up before any loads are put on them, if for nothing more than warming up the oil and getting it circulating well.

Take care all,

JJ

I got a new reflash and mine idles up to about 900 to 950 rpms when cold. It got around 25 here a few days ago. I usually let it warm up to the point when the temp gauge moves from the cold line as well. I also dont let it idle more than 5 or 10 minutes when warm, like if I am waiting for someone and when it is warm I start it and wait a minute or 2 then move out. This is my first diesel and just want to be a little carefull to do things right.
