3.0L plug gap confusion

After reading a couple of the spark plug gapping questions posted, I am now confused. I have a 2001 3.0L Ranger XLT Extended cab regular fuel and would like to know the proper gap setting. I replaced the plugs when I got the truck a couple of months ago with AP764's gapped at .044. Still trying to get more than 16MPG(mixed driving). I drive with the tailgate down. Still can't find a maint. manual for this truck, fuel cap light keeps coming on and have replaced the gas cap. Boy, it is driving me crazy. Thanks!

Also, where is the EVAP system canister vent solenoid?

The gap setting should be .044-.046 and you should be using double platinums, although for gas mileage

I've never seen a fuel cap light and I have a 2000 and 2002 Ranger. I bet the EVAP is under the bed since thats were most of the rest of the system is but I could be wrong on this one.
