dont know where else to turn you guys seem to be able to help with just about every problem well here's mine, i have a rail buggy with a good strong engine, the frame is ruined. it was a home built job that the person didnt do a good job on, i am in need of a frame that either has or will accept irs i am not good enough to fabricate and weld one and i cant spend a gob of money to buy a brand new one from larry's offroad or berien buggy, i know there are people out there that build frames but are not big name builders that do stuff like this, do any of yall know a source for a rail buggy frame?
check your local paper for anyone selling a rail that has sat for a while. Alot of people spend money on the rail chassis and go chincy on the running gear and engine. When the motor gives out a couple times they sell them out of frustration.
I sold my rail about a year and half ago when I went back to school for about $4500. I had over $6k into it. Sometimes you can find a good deal. I'm not sure what your budget is.
Also check www.dune-buggy.com, they have a for sale forum. May get a deal on ebay as well.
Another option is to purchase a '68 or later VW bug and cut it into a Baja buggy. '68 and later bugs use IRS rear/balljoint front. I've had 2 baja bugs so far and they were both alot of fun and not too much money. The first one was just a bug cut up with fiberglass baja kit and the suspension turned up to run bigger tires. The second one was built for more serious off-roading with a full tube chassis and long travel suspension. You can build a baja bug from mild to wild but no matter how you build it, it will still be alot of fun .
Check out this site. They have a bazillion links for sources for rail frames. Even a few organized clubs in AL. VW Trend magazine should have a few adds in the back concerning rail buggies.
sorry million i thought about posting it here but decided on the other forum instead, i am in alabama chiefs fan, and the rail buggy scene in north alabama in virtually non existant so thumbing through the papers is not an option. i look on ebay pretty often and dont come up with anything, thanks for the link though i'll give it a look.
