the truck in my engine has ball cup pushrods. and adjustable rocker arms. my question does this mean i have a solid cam??? i been searching for pushrods for a while and never been able to find any that style for a hydraulic cam.i always thought i had a hydraulic cam as there the most common but i found the pushrods that i needed and there listed for solid cams!! if i do have a solid cam will anything happen cause i put hydraulic lifters in there???when i was changing the head i noticed the lifters were in bad shape and decided to change em.i know ur supposed to change cam and lifters but i did anyways now the problem is do i have a solid cam??and i dont know anything about them??
Take a look at your old lifters, you should find an oil hole in the side of them. This will indicate they are hydraulic, and the ball/cup pushrods are for hydraulic lifters as well.
what did the motor come out of? what did the lifters look like? were they solid or hydr., not trying to be sarcastic but you should be able to tell the diff. between the two. the hyd. lifter has a plunger in it. but just because you have adj. rockers and cup p-rods doesnt mean you have a solid cam. i have both and have a hyd. cam. if it is a solid cam and you put hyd. lifts in it youll have to change them. hope this helps dude.
yeah the old lifters had a plunger on em.the iengine is stock out of the 72 .the only reason i asked is cause i never been able to find pushrods for it and finally i found them and they are marked for a solid cam.can i use this pushrods??also many people where i live claim that fe engines didint come adjustable i show them mine and they say they never seen anything like it thats the only reason i was wondering.a mechanic could have sworn my engine wasnt adjustable when i showed him he just shut up.that where i was confused
Most if not all hyd cam FE's have stock the non adj type rockers. Sounds like someone just upgraded them to the adj style. You need to use the ball and cup style pushrods for the adj rockers which are common to the solid cam vs the ball and ball pushrods for the non adj rockers. Whether or not the cam is solid or hyd makes no difference as you can use the adjustables on both. G.
alright!! thanxs then someone in its life changed it to adjustable!!i was just confused because i never seen a solid cam or lifters. i know hydraulic but i thought i was probably wrong on what type they were
