That must have been a ride? It looks like the passanger wasnt wearing a seat belt by the head print in the windshield? hopefully it wasnt your dog! Glad to hear the Ford tough saved you!JT
The punched spider on the windshield is from the passenger air bag cover. It is controlled by a steel cable on the upper right corner and when the air bag explodes the cover swings up and to the right, away from the passengers face. It is what hit the inside of the glass.
There are a few more pics in my gallery. I am most impressed that after that impact the entire cabin is not compromised at all. All four doors and windows were still square and working as new. The entire drive train collapsed down and sideways.
I am trained as an Army aircraft crash investigator. If I had not been the driver and walked away I would have thought this crash not survivable. This is my first (hopfully last) air bag event, and I am impressed at how well they worked. No black eyes, no sore chest, I did hit my left hand knuckles pretty hard on the door window when the air bag forced my hand away from the steering wheel. Insurance guy told me that air bags save broken arms by making you let go and just let your body and face decelerate the motion.
My partner and I were both out of the truck and laughing hysterically when folks started stopping to see what was wrong. took a while for them to get it that we were the occupants. In fact it looked like one fellow was going to kick my butt because he though we were drunk and caused the accident and were laughing at some poor slob that had just bit the dust.
1 May 04 sober, mid morning, in a light rain, East of Jasper Texas. Doing 55-60 and went to pass, go up to 65 and water in truck wear groove hydropland the left side tires and I lost it off into the mud, crossed over to other side and smack into 75' tall 18" round Piny tree that later laughed at me and suggested a bigger truck.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
it was a sad day, my little gas sipping shadow cracked a head, took it to the bone yard for a final resting place after realizing the inevitable.
On the brighter side the V10 drug that 22ft flatbed around with my poor dead car wihtout even a grunt.
