tach bounces

tach bounces

the tach on my 94 bounces when i turn on my blinkers, sometimes it almost doesnt even work when at idle it shows maybe 100rpms, im think rpm sensor, but im not sure.

Check your connections at the tach and the dash cluster, connector "A" left hand side as seen from the back of the cluster. Check all grounds on the cluster. Check the sensor right where the wires go into the big nut, quite often they are uncovered and can touch each other. If you want to test sensor, remove it from the timing gear cover and hold it in the air while checking for 2000-3000 ohms if resistance is outside that spec get a new one. Ford only part $50.

I had a similar problem, Just taking the sensor out and cleaning it off helped quite a bit. I guess it doesn't always work but it only took a few minutes and was cheaper then a new one. So I'd say clean it first, check the grounds then test and/or replace the tach sensor.
