15" Spare

Found out that the 01 Ranger XLT SC 4X4 that comes with the option 16" wheels has a 15" spare. Asked the dealer about this and he said that Ford says it's meant to be a temporary. Anyone else run into this and what was the answer you got. I think this is a bogus answer and probably hard on the drive train if you ever have to run the spare for a while.

i have a 2001 ex cab,4x4,ranger.The same thing as you,what a load of crap!!!!What if you have to 4 wheel from somewere on that stupid spare?It does seem that it would cause damage.Also ford won't include the spare i the firestone recall!!! crap.

The reason why Ford won't include the spare on the recall list is because FOrd uses all the tires they have recalled and stamps them as spares and uses them as spares on all new vehicles.

Well I did get a new tire for my spare anyhow! I went to a tire dealer to take care of the recall, when they went to mount the spare that's when we discovered the 15" wheel. HEY FORD YOU LISTENING!!!

my dealer said that a 16 wouldn't fit. but i wonder about that and yes it will hurt your suspension if you run on it for a long amount of time.

as far as the spare on the recall mine was replaced as part of it. additionally i was told that the dealer has been instructed to drill a two inch hole in all firestone tires to insure that they are not used again, even as spares.

15" Spare

My 97 came with 15's and 14 spare the spare tire is a tall narrow 14. ie same height as the 15. Go and check to see if ya can get the taller 15 to match the 16 diameter.
