Can anyone tell me where the filter is on this Explorer? Gotta change it on my wifes - not real familiar with the thing except to change oil, filters,etc. Also the guy at ford said something like ' if you break the plastic clamps your screwed'. Is he serious? Can you replace them with hose clamps?

 

I'll take the tech's hint that the 02 Exploders had the filter tucked inside the frame on the side where the fuel filler is.

Lucky. I know 04s have them in the fuel tank and maybe 03s as well.

As for the clamps, just be careful and I doubt you'd want hose clamps that can be undone over time in their place.

Pull the fuel pump relay in that underhood box, crank a few times and your fuel pressure has been relieved--now get to it.

 

dealer told me it was a lifetime filter. it is located on the left side frame, under where the seat bolts up.
