Oil Question?

I have an 04' F350 with 6.0. I only put about 5 to 6k a year on it. All my trips are very short. I have Mobil 1 Delvac Synthetic 5W/ 40. Is it ok to change the oil every 6 months? Because that is how long it takes to put the 3k miles on it or should I change it sooner? I was not sure if because it is synthetic it can stay a little longer in the engine before it needs to be changed. I know with regular oil they say 3 months or 3000 miles.

Thanks for the input.

You can change it every 3000 or 6 months but its a waste of money if yuo ask me. With the 6.0 you can go 7500 miles between oil changes 15qt and a filter pretty pricey.

IMO, change it as often as you can afford it. Too short an interval will not cause engine damage, too long an interval....well, you do the math...

Keep in mind that short trips with little warmup time cause far more net wear on interal components than highway miles. The 6.0 is notorious for breaking down the additive package in the oil (probably due to the HEUI-based injection) and reduces the oil life in comparison to other similar engines.

The synthetic SHOULD have a longer stationary life in the crankcase, but that is theoretical. As XxfirmanxX stated, the owner's supplement states a 7500 interval. I personally wouldn't go that long between changes if I was drawing salary for doing so, but that is just my opinion. My truck is driven harder than most.

Likewise, my wife's 2003 Land Rover Discovery and that, like the 6.0 PSD, is with regular/non-synthetic oil.
I know that oil companies and service centers want us to still change every 3,000, like the old days; but, I really don't believe that Ford, which has to pay for warranty repairs, wants us to ruin our engines.
I'll take my chances and stick with every 7,500 miles.
