I have just got myself a 67 short wheel base truck and I would like to turn it in to four wheel drive can any one help me with this I know how to work on trucks but don't know what i would need to get this done I know that i will need the axile for the front do I need to change any thing in the rear.
You will need a donor 4x4 truck first. Or a large supply of older 4x4 parts. So far what I think you will need is going to be the 4x4 radius arms if its a f100. Also the axle complete with the track bar, tie rod ends, center link, heavy duty coil springs, steering box, and a new front brake line. Take a look in my gallery if you are looking for a f100. For the 250's i think all you would need are the leaf spring mounts, and leaf springs. If these years came with the leafs?
You are talking about a major project if you are going to convert a 67 two wheel drive to a 4X4. Assuming that it is a F-100; first of all the 67 - 72 4X4 chassis is different than a 67 - 72 two wheel drive chassis. The back of the chassis's are the same, however the front is where the difference is. The 4x4 has a heavy cross member in the front of the motor, where the two wheel drive has the cross member under the motor. Also the steering boxes are in different locations. The cross member on the 4X4 that supports the rear transmission mount is also different. It has mounts for the radius arms, where the two wheel drive does not. The front coil spring upper mounts are also different. I agree with Thesprocket26, if you are going to tackle such a project, you better get a 4X4 donor truck with a good chassis, and due to the rarity of 4X4, short bed trucks during 67 thru 72, your search for a donor will be very difficult. I have heard of one guy taking a 1976 4X4 chassis and mating the 67 body to it. Any way you look at it, you are in for a lot of hard work. Hope this helps.
The Bronco front end may be a bit more narrow than the truck front end, but I am not sure. Just make sure you make all your measurements first and verify it all will work. Good Luck
hello gentleman it has been a while sence we talked last i have been looking for that donor bady for my 67 100but i guess there are none to be had in this part of the country so i haved decided to try to find the parts a little at a time and still try to turn this little red truck into a 4x4 some can yall give me a hand in what parts that i will need to get this party started short of that donor 4x4 HELP BIG BUBBA!!!!
Make it a crawler! Get the 78, shorten the frame, section your box, and give her a whirl! I think the rear frame rails are a different width between 67 and 79. The front should be the same width but you might have to drill some new holes and make some different mounts. You can do it if you have the time and knowledge.
There was a guy selling a 67 f-100 4X4 on ebay and he had done a conversion where he took a 76 shortbed frame and mounted the 67 body on it. it had disc brakes up front and power steering and looked better than any that I have ever seen. He even used the frame mounted gas tank of the 76. All he had to do was weld in a fuel filler door into the side of the 67 bed. Looked awesome. Don't know if this helps, but hope it will.
