Man I am not happy.... I made an appointment to get a line-x spray in liner put in the 2002 F250 that I bought used about a month ago. I decided I would go out and remove the drop in one that is in there today. When I removed I what I found underneath is not good. The whole bed is warped around the cross braces. I am not sure what the heck the guy was putting in there but is bowed the whole bed just in front of the read axel. It is not REALLY bad but I believe is is going to be noticeable when they spray in a new liner.
I see there are 8 bolts (the silver ones with the star heads) that look like they are removed to take out the center of the bed. I am thinking of taking those bolts off, pulling the middle piece out then trying to pound it back to square with a hammer. I am in over my head here so anything you guys suggest would help me a lot.
I also took off the tailgate part of the plastic liner by removing the 8 black bolts with the star head. I took the plastic off and put the bolts back on. They don't hold the metal cover tight on there. Do I have to get new bolts in order to get the metal cover on tight?
Uhhh - those silver bolts with the star heads are what hold your WHOLE bed on - to the frame - not just the "middle" part... The bed is kinda all one whole thing - you'd have to cut and weld to replace what you are talking about.
CAT_Man... thanks for the reply. I guess I won't do that then. I told you I was in over my head. I think I have decided to just talk to the guy at Line-X tomorrow and see if he can't try to level the bed out when he puts the spray on. I think if he sprays it a little thick in some areas and a little thinner in others it might look ok. I just hope that it is level enough so water does not pool up where it is mashed down. Thanks again for the reply.
Yea - no prob. As for your tailgate - I bet longer bolts than stock were put on when the cover was put on. I'd go get shorter ones and give 'em a whirl.
Yeah I figured that one out on my own. I went to Lowes and got some shorter ones. They worked fine. I don't really care anyways because tomorrow its going to be covered up by black rubber. Thanks again for your help.
I have line X sprayed into my 99 long bed and I have beaten the crap out of it and it looks good as day one. When I bought the truck used it was pretty beaten up in the bed. I had a few good sized dents in the bed. They filled up the dents almost perfectly and can only tell where one was out of the 6 big ones. All the scratches and other dents you cant even tell they were there. They did go right over the bed bolts. I looked around and saw many other bedliners out there and Line X was the strongest and the best for UV protection.
I have hauled Gravel, Bricks, Rock, sand, pallets, etc etc in there and not one problem with nicks or scrathes. I have spilled oil, grease, muriatic acid in the bed and just hosed it off. It looks like the day I had it done.
When I had my line-x applied they removed the bolts, the cover on the tailgate is the only spot that ever gets chipped,on my truck,as it sticks up a bit. But of course it`s lifetime warrenty so just bring it back and haazzza,no problem. I love Line-x,Best stuff
