81 short wheel base f100 with a rebuilt 300 and a 3 spd. collumn shift tranny. it cranks right up and idles perfect. it is quiet and the body is in very good shape. it has a new battery, fuel pump and a few other things. the title is clear also. he wants 850 bucks for it, i think this is a good deal but my grandma does not. i am taking her to look at it today if she every gets back here. thanks to all. it does not have power brakes or power steering.
emissions are no problem here, i had an 82 with no cats and 8 inch glasspacks. if this has a cat, i will be taking it off and putting my pollished banks muffler with pollished sidepipes
A company that I used to work for used to order Fords from the dealer that had clear glass, no radio, no power steering / brakes. The owner saves a fair amount of loot doing this. On the other hand, his trucks could haul due to the heavy duty suspension under the bed that he special ordered.
sounds like a good deal but why doesnt it have power brakes or power steering?
those were options in that year, not standard equipment. i drove it today and it drives perfect. hopefully nobody gets it while my grandma takes her time to decide.
seems to me it wouldn't be too hard to add power brakes, just swap in a booster/master cylinder and run a vac line to it. power steering i could probably live without on a shortbed 1/2 ton.
yes i have an 82 supercab body with power brakes and steering, i might put the power brake upgrade on this 81 but i won't mess with the PS. the brakes and sterring were not bad at all anyway so i might not do anything else to it
Sounds like a good deal to me.... plus if you wanted PB and/or PS just keep your eyes open. I bet you'll find someone would like you pull them off a parts vehicle for $50 or maybe less!
well i may be getting it within the next 2 days. i think it has a really high gear in the rearend. it takes a bit of gas and clutchwork to get it rolling at first.
850.00 isn't a bad deal considering the cost of new trucks nowadays and the shape of some that I seen people wanting for much more in worst shape and condition. The fancy clutchwork problem could be it will be needing a pressure plate, clutch and throwout bearing soon so be aware of the costs for that.
