Max Engine Rev for 04' F-150 w/ 4.2L

I don't have a tach in my 04' F-150 Heritage so I'd like to know what speed in each gear is the max I can run. I kinda run my truck hard and I want to try and not blow my engine up by running too fast in a gear.

Welcome!

Rev Limiter should kick in at about 5,500. A hint though: If you hold your odemeter reset button on your guage face then turn the key(not starting it yet)and wait a couple of seconds, the truck will go into diagnostic mode. Release the button and keep pressing it down till you see( on the digital odemeter) "tach". Crank her up and give it a try...Cameron

I'd just buy a tach for your truck. It would look awesome mounted up there by the window and would help you out alot. They are a pretty easy install too.

I have no tach, and since day 1 brand new, apparently no rev limiter. I am able to hit 45 in first gear. Sure, she wails, but who wouldn't?

Well, I only do it at full throttle, and for no more than 10 minutes at a time.

I'm KIDDING!!!! I've got a redline and rev limiter just like everyone else

How much would a nice tachometer run me and how hard is it to wire it? The truck isn't mine but I keep good care of it. When I get my new Tacoma, it'll definitely have a tach.

There's a link around here somewhere with all the crap you can check and do with it, but the main ones are Tach, MilerPerHour, KiloPerHour (I think), a bunch of pressure codes, and so on...

Oh BTW, redline for your truck is around 5300-5500 RPM's when you are flooring it. Also...Tacoma?! What in the world for? Mileage or something? Those things are really slow, but I think they do get waaaay better mileage than our trucks.

I'm not really into tacomas either, or Toyota trucks to begin with. I'm still not buying into the whole japanese truck thing, tacoma OR tundra, or any other. They're just too small. My standard cab F150 feels roomier than a double cab tundra. I work on those all the time at work.

As far as tacoma is concerend? My 91 honda accord had more interior space. How do I know? I owned a tacoma for about 2 years, and went back to my good ol' accord.

MPG wasn't that great either, for the 4banger.

I just want a nice king cab 4 cyl for my job. The engine in the F-150 is way too fuel inefficent for the stuff I haul around. A 4 cyl 05' Tacoma would be perfect. Plus they're a blast to drive! Sure, the f-150 is a nice full size truck but it's just not what I need. And paying $55 for 350 miles is too much for me, I drive to much.

I pay $40 for about 300-320 miles. But WHO WANTS AN IMPORTED TRUCK!!! Come on, you are from the U.S. right? So buy a Ford!

If not a Ford , atleast a chevy or even dodge . I prefer to dodge the chysler products though. Never had any luck with them. For me its $40- for 350-370mpg.
