Has anyone had this problem because it is a new one for me. I've had some bad brakes for the last few weeks in my 77 f-250 4x4 which I bought in September. I've replaced a calaper, replaced the front brakes, and bled them (with the proportoning valve engaged). I still have way to much pedal. I then checked to see if my rear brakes were adjusting. Bingo, I thought my drivers side rear brake was not adjusted. The pasenger's side was fine. So I manually adjusted them until the star didn't spin freely any more. I then have plenty of pedal. I think I've solved the problem. Two days later the problem is back. I look at my rear brakes and it is once again unadjusted. Badly unadjusted. It takes several spins of the star to get it back. So the short skinny, is it posible for an adjustor, to unadjust by itself? Could someone have put the ajustor on backwards and have it unadjust when backing up? The manual star is rotating down when I adjust is this right?
I believe that the adjusting wheels have different threads, and are marked 'L' or 'R' (left or right handed threads). Look at the end of the shafts on the adjusters. Maybe you have two lefts or two rights on your vehicle? When viewed from the backing plate, the adjustment wheel should rotate upwards to expand the shoes...Terry
