Has anyone experienced gear noise with late model Rangers with the 5spd manual? My 98 Ranger has a slight gear clash between 2nd to 3rd gear. I took it to the dealer last year
(20K miles ago) and they put in a new clutch, and rebuild the trans with a new ring gear and main shaft. A friend suspects that it isn't in the trans at all, but that the clutch isn't totally releasing when I put the pedal in and that the tolerances are tight enough inside the trans that going between 2 and 3 makes the gears catch a little bit. It doesn't do it all the time, just occasionally.
Ideas? Could the master cylinder for the clutch be weak and not supply enough pressure to the slave?
That's what my friend thinks, so is he full of it?
I am full and fed up with hearing the trans grind when I'm shifting.
My 98 2.5L 5 speed does the same thing. I am not sure what the problem is. I have 75,000 miles on the truck now and other than that the transmission seems to be fine.
