I suggest you try a speedo shop. It's amazing what they can come up with.

Mustangs Unlimted sells em. Same ones fit all std transmission Fords. There are different tooth counts for different gear ratio combos, but all are interchangeable.

You just have to ask one of the "oldtimer" parts guys at a Ford dealer. I bought several driven gears (the one that fits the cable and is "driven" by the gear on the tailshaft) from a local dealer last year. Mustangs Unlimted has both the "drive" & "driven" gears. The driven gears were used on all Ford car & trucks up til the transition to electronic speedos. The drive gears were as well on all std transmissions,(automatics had this machined into the tailshaft) the ones in my 89 Ranger's original Mazda 5 speed used the same gears as the earlier ones. The driven gears are not interchangeable between auto and std transmissions, they'll fit all speedo cables, but not the gear on the tailshaft.

Baddad457 is right the auto gears in the tranny. They turn the opposite direction. I found that out in the early '70's when I swapped out the C-6 for a toploader in my '69 Cobra and stuck the autos gear in the toploader. It ate the plastic cable gear.

The gear rotation depends on what side of the tailshaft housing the cable's plugged into. There were some reverse rotation Toploaders also, the Galaxie's used them, the cable on them went into the left side, most other Toploaders went into the right side. The 64-65 Fairlane Toploaders also had the cable on the left. My Ranger's 5 speed was also left side. If you swap sides the cable rotation is also reversed. I've also went thru this with the Toploader I now have in my Ranger, never have gotten it right, I just gave up and use the tach to figure how fast I'm going.

drivers side is the left side. the transmission rotation isn't reversed, only the cable's rotation when you swap the cable from one side to the other.
