Recently I've been having problems starting my Ranger. I can hear some 'clicking' (not fast). The battery has pently of juice. I replaced the starter and it started fine. A three days later I couldn't start it again. I replaced the starter again, and it worked fine. Two days later the same thing happened. I decided it wasn't the starter. I removed the battery cable and replaced it. I removed the batter cable again, leaving it off for several seconds, the car starts.
It was starting for the past month when the problem started up again. This time, my friend who works on cars said it was a relay switch. I removed the battery cable for a second, replaced it and heard a few (3) 'clicks'. The car is starting again.
Anyone know if the relay switch could be the problem here? When I take it in mechanics want $200 to replace a $70.00 starter, which I can get for free (warranty). I don't think that's the problem.
the problem more than likely lays in the solonoid. Trace the positive wire off of your battery, you should have a smaller gauge that goes up onto the solonoid on the fender of the truck. You should see four posts all together on it, one from each side and two on the front. When it starts clicking again take a screw driver and cross the two on the front over with the truck key on, the truck should start, if it does, this is your problem.
