engine block identification info
hey does anyone know where to look to identify what block i have. My grandfather gave me a 72 F-250 that he had a rebuilt egnine put into it, im in the process of rebuilding that engine and i obviously need to know what it is. He thinks its a 390 and on the side of the block it looks like D3TE is stamped on it. Any information you guys have would be nice

Mallard, it sounds like the block is a 1973 casting. But if the engine has been rebuilt before, what is inside, who knows ? The D3TE casting could have come as a 390 or a 360 originally. Even if it IS just a 360, now is a great time to make it a 390 instead ( or bigger ) DF,@ his Dad's house
D3TE casting can be a 360, 390 361, 391 with a 4.05 bore or a 330HD with a 3.875 bore. They all have the triple web at the cranksaddle reinforcement. Yep you need to post the crank and rod casting numbers as this will help. The crank numbers should be on the 7th counterweight from the front look for a 2U,3U and 2UA for the 390 and 2T , 2TA for the 360. If its a 361,391 number will be different like a D2TE-AA or similar and the crank will be forged steel not cast iron like the 360/390. The rods have the casting number on the side so that's easy enough. G.
