My 00 X's overdrive button does not seem to be working. Here is the wierd thing about it:
If you start the engine (V10) with the steering wheel in the up position, the overdrive OFF light is usually off. However, if you move the wheel down it will come on (with the engine running). When the light is on the overdrive is off and when it is off the overdrive is on, which is how it should be. If you need the overdrive to be on, but it is off, you have to turn the engine off, restart it and put the vehicle in gear before you move the steering wheel to the driving position, or turn it off and restart it with the wheel in the position you want to drive in. Oh, BTW, if you turn the engine off (to get the light to go out) and have your foot on the brake, the light will not be out when you restart the engine.
Pushing the button does not work at anytime.
I just replaced the VSS on the differential because my ABS light came on, so I thought that might be the issue, but it did not fix the overdrive light problem. It did fix the ABS light problem!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
On that same path, I'm wondering if the button may be bad, but I was hoping that someone might have had the problem and I wouldn't be buying and replacing parts that I don't need to. My wife doesn't understand that replacing good parts means you have a spare if the part ever breaks for real.
I ahd a very similar problem in my 94 F150. Wound up being the wires were cut but the movement of the tilt wheel. I had to solder the wires back together and reroute them. May be the same problem if you use your tilt wheel a lot.
