4x2 to 4x4 conversion

yeah i found a hell of a good deal today on a 88 f-350 srw crewcab and i was wondering how hard it would be to swap it out to a 4x4, now i do have a donor truck for the process bad thing its a f 250 with a dana 50 axle, all i need to know is all im gonna haft todo on the front end is get some leaf spring hangers and get leafs made up or is it gonna be more of a chore the truck is in good shap unlike the f 250, the transfer case and all the other stuff i know how todo but the front end im not sure on id probably go out and get a dana 60 at a later date for underneath the front but for now the easies thing todo is go with the smaller axle. are the pivot points on the axle the same as they are on the 2wd front end ? any ideas and id be grateful thank you

I don't see why you would go through the hassle of doing this twice, why not just swap in the d60 and call it a day? I'm 95% sure the pivot points are the same, they are on the F-150s.

i wish it was that easy

i live in a stae that hardly and if u caome across a dana 60 it 2 times what id pay some where else and i cant go out of state as long as i get all the new stuff monuted in place swaping out front axles isnt a problem it making sure i can get all the nessicary componets underneath the truck fine and make sure they do their job in the meanwhile swaping a axle out at a later date isnt a problem i have the other truck and it wouldnt be much for me to swap all of it out to the new one excect for the drive shafts which would have to be legthened and shortned

Have you read the tech article about 4wd swaps yet? Check out the tech articles section of our website....

It should just bolt right in, minor things may need to be changed but you won't know exactly until you're working on it and run into a problem. Basically, it's a bolt in job but plan for hang-ups along the way. The trouble you'll have is in the mounting of springs. The 2wds use coils and the 4wd's use leaf springs, so you may need to fab some bracketry for the leaf springs to mount to the frame if stock brackets won't work. You can also do it in steps, like put the drivetrain together, drive it, put the suspension in, drive it, and when you've got everything all set, put the driveshaft in and go 4-wheelin' lol.
