I changed My oil in my 86 F150 EFI 302 because the delo was a bit thick for this cooler centeral Texas weather. So I picked up Castrol GTX but they only had 2 quarts of 10w-30 so I got 4 5w-30 and the FL1A filter I let ran it 15 minutes before I changed the oil so it was warm but it only took 5 quarts with the filter to be just a hair over the full mark. I let it drain 10 minutes also.
Oil pressure it great even with the 5w-30 mixed in and it get oil pressure as soon as it starts in this 40* weather.
Did I pick a good oil for my truck?
does it take 5 or 6 quarts of oil the chiltons says 6 but the dipstick says 5
Dustin
It depends, the correct procedure is put in enough to bring it to full, start it to get oil in the filter, then recheck to see how much more to add. MY 351 takes 7, as does our 302.
I filled the filter about 1/2 quart before I put it on and added 4.5qts to the motor and it is about 1/8" above the full mark even it I let it sit overnight. I'm just going by the dipstick on this one it's full " I think" It is an 86 F150 EFI 302 long bed ext cab 2wd auto trans
Is that after's it run? I am goin to assume so. The pans seem to vary on these things. Like I said I've had 3 vans all with 351ws in them that will take 6 to 7 quarts, and one with a 302, and the same thing, 6 to 7.
My 96' Bronco with 302 shows full with just a little over 5qt. including filter. There's been earlier threads on this and a lotofolks have the same issue. I finally decided to use 5 1/2 since I couldn't seem to get "The Answer". If I put 6 in it's WAY over. I bought this one new and it's always been the same.
