I bought the f 250 6.0 on 9/30/04 the build date is 9/03 . It was a new leftover. Since getting the truck appx. 65 day ago it has been in service for 9 days and need to go back. fuel milage and engine vibration are the worst problems. fuel milage last tank in mixed driving was 11.2 mpg. The last time I had it in for service I got it back and the first tank was 16.3 mpg next tank was 14.8 and last tank was 11.2. The engine vibrates starting at 1100 rpm through 2000 rpm and makes a lot of noise. When the mileage was better the vibration was less. They tell me it's turbo vibration caused by the turbo mount anybody heard of this problem? It vibrates the steering wheel, seat and floor boards and makes noise at the same time.
Yes. What is the engine build date. 9/30/03 are 04 engines. Earlier are 03 engines.
That could be the turbo drone/moan caused by a combination of exhaust pipes and turbo mount. There is a service bulletin out on how to fix it. Most 03's and 04's had it. 03 and 04 have different turbos and mounts.
How are you measuring mileage? Don't go by the overhead lie-o-meter. Fill your tank to the filler neck in the same spot each time. Foam will cause the pump to kick off at different spots each time. Then divide gallons into miles driven since last fillup.
I go by the calculator and wallet meter. I fill it to the same place each time and record my results. That is the vibration problem they are talking about. but when the truck was doing better milage and power wise the vibration was much less?? My build date was 9/30/03 yes the very day of change - luckly me
It sounds like you are fighting the very same issue I am on my '04 with a '03 engine. They have replaced the turbo mount and neutralized the exhaust, and the drone/moan is still there. It moved from 1600-1700 RPM to 1100 RPM after the turbo mount was replaced, but is still very pronounced at 1100 RPM. It vibrates so bad at that speed that I can feel it in the steering wheel and the floorboards. I have been told that Ford is aware of it, and they are calling it normal. I have complained to Ford Customer Service, and they suggest that I take it in for a second opinion. I have an appointment with another dealer Dec 27th to have them look at it. I love the truck, but that drone is just not acceptable. Have them replace the turbo mount and neutralize the exhaust, as some have had good luck with doing that. Wouldn't you know, I have to have the truck it won't work on.

Typically the drone/moan and mileage are not connected. However, you might have an EBP sensor, VGT actuator or other sensor acting up. I would read the 6.0 bible in the tech forum. Get up to speed on knowing your truck. I would be nice to the service advisor, but they typically are not too knowledgeable. I would meet with the service manager and diesel tech and have a polite, friendly but firm conversation with them.
This ground has been plowed before by many of us here on FTE. It is fixable. What was your vehicle in the shop for previously. Details?
My vibration started out of the blue around 8000 km. When I mentioned this at the 10000 km serviceing they said it was probably the tires and to have a force varience load test done. I did that and they gave me acomplete new set of A/ts...same problem. So they suggested going to a set of R/Ts and it was the same thing, vibration at 1800, right at 100 to 110 kpm. I thought it might be the fuel pump thats mounted on the frame right under the drivers seat and mentioned this when I took it in for the 15000 km service. I went to pick up the truck the next day and was told it was the tires. I told them no way, this is the third set of new tires, maybe you should try putting a set of stock tires off one of the trucks in the lot. The next day when I went in they finally admitted it wasn't the tires after all, it's the turbo and a differant base is on the way. I hope that solves it cause 100 to 110 is my usual driving speed. I have an 04 350 sc

The Crazy thing about this vibration is that it's not consistant. It doesn't go away but at times it's less severe. At times the truck feels snappier then the vibration feels less, but it's always present from 1000 to 2000 rpm.
