How do you scrape frost?

Hey! I'm 5'10 and had to scrape frost this morning from my '04 s-cab - very interesting experience! I had picked up a long handled (telescoping) scraper/brush and it "worked" but it still seemed that from my height it was hard to get the right angle & leverage. It was a bit easier from the curb side since I was about 8 inches higher. Anybody have any good suggestions ...?

I kept the driver's door open, stood on the step, held onto the grab bar, and scraped what I could reach this morning. The good thing is that the defroster works fast!!!

Checked around with various people at work & this was one suggestion- a "tire step". Checked and they are 34.95 in Cabela's; seems like it might be a good investment. Here is long URL link: http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...412&hasJS=true

Plug your truck in(block heater) start the truck, idle for about 2 minutes, turn defrost on high, lock your truck, with the club in place on the wheel(no key for the club on current key ring in ignition) and let it warm up for about 5 minutes more while you're inside)

If you really want to avoid this, grab an in-line circulating pump style block heater. Install one of these, and leave your heater set to defrost. This thing pumps coolant as it warms it from the rad throughout the entire cooling system, and will keep you from scraping your windows, as well as have your rig blowing instant heat from the turn of a key. If you don't feel like installing that, toss in a car warmer, or purchase a 12v cig plug car warmer to plug in while warming the truck up. You have options, choice is up to you.

This has always worked well for me. Ive found that the telescoping wands just break under use, so I use nothing but those fixed plastic ones.

For the windshield, I don't scrap. I use the Prestone windshield de-icer. Takes frost and if worse, a limited amount of ice off the windshield easily. For side and rear windows, I use either a squegee or scraper.

If you want the truck to warm up faster, after initial start, and give it a minute or so, put the trans in neutral, after another minute, put it in drive. Neutral gets the trans pump circulating the fluid, drive puts it under load and forces more temp with no effort. You can also just turn on the a/c(if so equipped) for a couple of minutes, as this also lends a load type situation.

Turn the truck into a low -rider, that way you can reach easier.

Take a container with 1/2 gallon of hot water and throw it on the windshield. Frost will be gone in 2 seconds.

LMAO..RX1 - Damn, that was going to be my response... Here is an easy step by step solution.

1. Wake wife up.
2. Send her out to start the truck while you're in the shower. (be sure to instruct her to leave the defrost on)
3. Wake up kids.
4. Have kids stand on hood and scrape of any residual frost.
5. Kiss wife and kids goodbye and go to work in your nice warm truck.

Hope this helps. JP
