just wondering how much tips affect the sound of the exhaust, if at all?
right now i have gibson extreme duals on my ranger 3.0l and like the sound, but its kind of quiet, looking for a little more sound.
The tips are big echo/resonance chambers that end up giving the exhaust note a deeper tone. Going an inch larger in diameter would make a bid difference. The lenght of the tip also plays a good factor. What size tips are on it right now? A 3.0 shouldn't have big pipes to start with...
Yeah, that's probably about as big as you'd want to go with those pipes. 3" tips on 1.5" pipe is like me putting 4.5" tips on my 2.25" pipes. I couldn't imagine, nor would I want to try putting over a 5" pipe on mine...just as you probably wont' want to go over the 3" tips.
I bet it looks nice though. A guy here at the college has 3" tips on his Ranger, and they look pretty meaty.
Too make it louder without a ricey sound you might try dual glasspacks. My cousin did that on his v-6 mustang and it sounded nice and beefy. Glasspacks are CHEAP. The shorter they are, the cheaper they are, the LOUDER they are
