Started having a problem yesterday. My truck started then died. Cranked till the batteries went dead (they were weak to start with). Went and got two new batteries and tried it again. It took about 30 seconds of continues cranking till it started. There was no blue or white smoke on cranking, the tach registered about 150 rpms (rule out cps). I can get it started and shut it down and crank it over and it will start right away. If I leave it for a minute or so it will take the same long time to start. I just changed the oil and that didn't help. Whe I first started having the problem I noticed the HPOP was 2 quarts low, the level hasn't changed since then.

Now for the rest of the story. About a year ago I ran over a concrete block. It caved in the bottom of my oil pan causing my oil level to read about 2-3 quarts high when I reliazed it and that was after driving about 400 mls towing about 13k trailer. Since then there has been a loud whining sound coming from the HPOP for the first couple minutes upon a cold start-up. It sound like a bad power steering pump. No other symtoms till now. I'm trying to rule out everything before digging into a $700 HPOP. Next is the starter. I'm going to tear it out and have it tested but I'm pretty sure thats not it.
