Erratic behavior

Hi all. First I would like to say this is an excellent forum and there are many knowledgeable posters here. I am experiencing intermittent airflow problems with my 97 Explorer. Recently after driving for an extended period of time (over 1 hour) I changed the mode from floor to defrost. The air flow didn't seem to come out of the defrost vents like I thought it should. It actually seemed to be coming from all of the vents and changing the fan speed only made more noise but not a significant change in air flow. I did have control of the temperature and max a/c mode you could hear the louder noise from the fan. After turning off the vehicle for approximately 10 minutes and restarting it worked normally and the problem didn't return. Does any one have any thoughts on this?
Thanks.

Sounds like one of your doors got stuck momentarily. Possibly due to an intermittant loss of vacuume.
