Question Gear Oil

What gear oil should I use in a 2001 f350 DRW 4x4? Front and rear axle. Also any recomendations on tranny fluid? Brand/synthetic? Thanks

Mobil 1 synthetic gear oil in the weights recommended in your owners manual. I think it will be less expensive than buying Ford brand synthetic oil. You must use synthetic oil to prevent damage to the gears. Appearantly, the gears are made to use synthetic oil and are not as well made as gears of old. You might have to call a Mobil 1 dealer to get both weights oil, most auto shops only carry one weight of that oil.

Front axle 75w-90, 5.8 pts Dana 60
rear axle, 75w-140 synthetic 6.9 pts for 10.5 axle
rear axle 75w-90 synthetic 8.5 Pts Dana 80

Both rear add friction modifier if you have limited slip unit.

You should have the Dana 60 in front if you have DRW F350, and dana 80 in rear.
