i have been having a fluctuation problem with my cooling sys. temp. just for laughs i replaced the new sending unit with the old one tonight to se if it would make a difference in how much it fluctuated on the gauge.
the old unit reads 194 ohms and the new one read 108 ohms. this si with engine cold and about 45* outside. the new unit would put the gauge on the "M" of normal and it would fluctuate from the "N" to the "L". the old onekeeps the gauge right on "N" but it still moves a little bit. is there any other test i can perform to these units to see wich one is correct?
Check them when you know for certain they are the same temperature. Since the guage isn't marked in degrees, the reading is relative anyhow. Get to know where it should be at normal operating temperature.
the engine was at the same temp when i checked them. that is my cause for concern. the old one read 194 ohms and the new read 108 at the same engine temp. i am trying to figure out what the resistance should be at a certian temp or if there is any other way to check these units.
