Crank bearing Question.....

So I got the gasket leaking, engine knocking thing going on. I changed the gaskets upper and lower and put it back together but it still knocks. So, I know I need to pull the motor to replace the connecting rod bearings and check for bent rods. My question is can I unbolt and change the crank bearings while in the motor, leaving the heads bolted up and everthing else on the top end hooked up? Thanks

While I'm sure it is possible, it would be very difficult. The best possible suggestion I could give, would be to spend $12, and go get a Haynes manual for your year truck. They give pretty good ideas of repairs possible with the engine in, as well as a section of repairs with the engine out. These rules are not hard and fast, but they are pretty good. You would probably save more time by following their recommendations. That's just my opinion, stick around, there are some sharp folks in here, they may know better.
