Brakes wearing out

I put only 18,000 miles on my E 150 before front pads wore out. It's a 1991 van that I purchased two years ago. Is this commen in Ford Vans???

Welcome to FTE. I usually go about 20k on my front. Your driving style, weight in the van, and quality of the brakes you buy will affect how long they last. Mine is a 90 E350.

On our E vans we use the bendix titanium pads, and get great life out of them. Even towing.

Soft brake pads stop faster when cold than harder pads. And they're probably cheaper (I'm guessing) so all the manufacturers use them. 20K is about right for front brakes nowadays. Buy a higher grade replacement pad and make sure you bed them in correctly. I know it's a lost art but it will make a difference in the life of your pads. Good luck, Ken

I have a e- 150 with the same problem. Mine would eat up the rotors in 2 or 3 months. I switched to ceramic brake pads from napa and they last twice as long.
