I am thinking of purchasing a 2000 ranger 4.0ohv this week. I am wondering how good they really are? how long do theses trucks last, and how fast can I expect it to be? I would love to see how many miles you guys have on yours and what kinds of problems any of you have experienced. the choice is a throw up between a 2002 dakota, or a 00' ranger. my pick will be the less trouble proned.
thanx for your responses.
How about a 2001 or newer Ranger? They have just over 200hp, compared to 160 for the 2000 and older. I have a 2000 and I love it, but I wished I had the extra ponies. Also, I'm not a Dodge fan.
Can't say much about the Dakota, except it has a larger selection of engines. On the other hand my Dad has a 1994 4.0 Splash that was a hand-me down from my abusive brother. My brother bought the truck with 12 miles on it, put a flowmaster on it and a K&N filter drove the **** out of it for 120,000 miles without any repairs and now my Dad, even more abusive than my brother has put on 30k, no major repairs. So now, at 157,000 miles it still has everything from the factory except the thermostat I put on a month ago. It's still quick, looks pretty good (although the paint is coming off, my Dad never washes it) doesn't smoke or burn oil. He does currently have problems changing gears (like I said he abuses it) This past summer he filled the bed with enough rocks to make it ride on the bump stops. Well hope that's what your asking for, by the way, I have a '91 Ranger with 190k and only replaced the clutch, thermostat, starter, alternator and of course....the oil. Why would you buy anything but a Ford ?????
Hello New to the board, and new to Ford. I purchased a 2002 Ranger 2 months ago, and have 1700 miles on it so far. I pleased with it's horsepower, and pickup definitly there when I need it. This is my first truck, and used to drive a Nissan Maxima. It is a new truck so I have had no issues with it performance wise.
