Column Shifter Slop???
Anybody here know what the problem could be on my '96 Eddie Bauer Bronco? There is a few inches (maybe 4) of up and down slop on my shifter. I can still get all the gears but I would like to tighten it up if possible.

Don't know if it will help but here is a starting place. You can go through and see if there is something that will help. I think there is some sort of plate or guide that can come loose and not hold in place for when you are shifting. It should be located in the steering column shroud just under the edge of the dash.

If I'm not mistaken, that is the shifter with the OD button on the end of it. I know these things have a problem in the linkage that runs along the column. I would just take it apart and see where the slop is. I think the housing that runs down the column is made of pot metal and it breaks. (I've never actually taken one apart, a guy at the junk yard told me this.)
