Heater control and fan

Hello all,
In my 93 F350 w/ 460 engine the fan started making noise the other night. When I turned off the heater the noise stopped and I fugured it was the fan. I looked at how to remove the fan and it seem pretty easy except for all those wires and hoses in the way. Has anyone else had a problem with the fan suddenly making a lot of noise? Did replacing the motor fix the problem.

I noticed this control item on the top { In my Haynes manual it is called the Heater Funtion Control Motor.} that I think opens and closes the vent flap but there is a white plastic vacuum line attached to it broke off and I can not see where it would attach to. The small piece that is left is full of holes. Can anyone tell me where this vacuum hose is supposed to attach to. I don't see another end flapping around in the engine compartment so maybe someone bipassed it. Can I just "T" off another vacuum line?

Chances are you plastic blower cage has split and is rubbing inside the housing. Take it out and have a look. If you have to replace it you will have to cut off the push clip holding it on. You can buy the push clip at your local auto parts store but the fan cage is a ford item only and cost about $13.00 . As far as the vacuum line goes it comes off the back of the heater switch assembly in the dash and it will pass thru the firewall at some point. You may look for the line also in the wire looms as i believe they ran it along with the wires. If you connect it direct the inside selection doors will not opperate properly.
