Carpet

My bronco has the rubber mat in it, I would like to put carpet in for more sound deadening and more traction, lol DO I have to remove the mat, or can I just put the carpet on it? Also do I need something under the carpet, like the grey padding, or whatever it is under it? Thanks

I just did the opposite.
I removed the carpet and installed Vinyl. But I added padding for sound damping. I worked perfectly.
What I suggest you do is put padding under your Vinyl.

It is so much easier to clean the Vinyl vs. carpet.

I bought the blue padding from Walmart $4.88 for 20in. x 72 in. piece. It's in the sporting goods by the camping gear.

The vinyl you have now should already have the padding under it. Yes you can place carpet right over it and you will get more sound deadening, but yanking all the old stuff and putting it in new is better. But then you have the expense of the padding. The more you have the more it will deaden the sound. If you do lay the carpet on top, it may not be a bad idea to check the vinyl and under it for rust or rotting.

I just put carpet in over the pad and it does quite well. The carpet slips a lot less than the passengers did before.

Where to buy carpet????

I do not have to worry about rust here (southern Oregon) I used to live in MN and you rally had to watch that, it took awhile to get used to seeing vehicles with lips on the rear fender wells! They tend to rot away in the MN salt. Thanks for the help guys!

I know the vinyl is easy to clean, but I'd rather have the carpet. Is Jc Whitney a good place to buy it? Or does anyone have a suggestion?

There are a few diff places that you can get carpet kits made to fit. I think www.broncograveyard.com has em. Just do a search for "Ford Carpet". That should pull up some places.
