The one I saw is power on, fan on, just like an AC compressor. You have a very good point, failing to a safe mode is definetely better than the alternative. Not much different than a regular electric fan though.

I think this is much better alternative to a full electric set-up.

HEAVYASSAULT has a Flex-a-lite 290 dual fan on his truck,do a search,find his gallery and he has pics of the install.
