I just remembered a truck that has been sitting for years out by the local ski hill here. I believe its a 3/4 ton, and i was curious, what diffs will i find it have? A buddy says that crew cabs will have 60's, but another says 60 in the rear, and 44 front....so help me out boys! I can scoop this thing for probably 500 nuck bucks or so.
thanks
Brian
Converted to disc brakes?! Here in LG WI we just got a few inches of snow...packy and wet. My Dana 44 HD (closed knuckle) has drum brakes on it and i can't even use the brakes or else they will lock up on me and its bye bye steering. Did you buy a conversion kit to change from drum to disc or fab somthing up yourself?
so basically we're looking at it being a 44...that sucks. Although you peaked my intrest asigalet...i hope your right. Dam buddys and their ideas...donno why he figures it has to have a D60 in it...although one site says that supercabs and crews have it...looks like ill have to drive out there and compair it to my 44 in the 79...thanks guys

it just depends on the options it had, my 78 F-250 snow fighter has 60's front and rear, it got the 60 in front cause it had a plow from the factory, but i think more of the 250's had 44's. but u never can tell what someone might have done to it.......
My 1979 F250 has a D60 F/R.My 79 Supercab came with a D44 but I swaped in a D60.Like said before it depend's on what option's were wanted when truck was bought new.
Fordbronco69,
The truck was set up with disc and closed knuckle when I bought it, so I don't know all of the details. I do know that it drives and stops super and I have no complaints with it.
Well, the virdict is in. The truck in question has 60's front and rear!!! I was out in the snow in the dark looking at it tonight, and those diffs make my 9" and 44 look girly....i love it. Its also a 4 speed, 400 truck. The truck has been sitting for as long as i remember up at the ol ski hill, and oddly enough, has whats left of a snowplow setup on the front. Last i heard the fella wanted 400 canuck for it, i know who he is, so im gonna see if he will do a bit better on it...but i think i for once got lucky with the find. The truck is basically thrashed tho, no windows left in it, no pannel left undented, interior is hooped from sitting damp/weathered for so long, but im not interested in that anyways. Im thinking with the 60's, np435? and the Tcase...205? and the 400, its gotta be a couple grand usd in parts even if i wanted to sell em.
Sorry im rambling, i just am super curious about all this. What gearing would the diffs most likely have? The Tcase....will it be a divorced one, or a normal one like my 79 half ton has? ooooh, and one last question, i THINK its got drums on the front....unless the dust shields are freakin huge on it....what can i do to fix that issue? hard...? Thanks for sharing your great wisdom guys!
Brian
My 78 F-250 supercab camper special has Dana 60's, My F-350 REg cab has Dana 60's and my 77 crew has Dana 60"s. Ok, the supercab and the reg cab original with D 60's. The crew I put the D 60 in. The all have 3.54 gear ratio. I also have another 60 front that is 4.10. 4.10's seem to be harder to come by.
