Time for a new T-case.

Where can I find a good rebuilt BW 1356 manual shift for my 88. Mine is shot and I can not seem to find too many places that have them.

Cheapest source will always be a junkyard for stuff like that. They were in '87 & up Broncos and pickups up to F-350s. Some were electric shift, some were manual, and some were slip yoke, some were fixed yoke. Make sure you get the right one for your truck.

I don't want one from a junk-yard. I would like a new or rebuilt one. To many risks from one in a junk-yard.

It needs a new chain. When I give the truck gas it thumps real bad. It is not my tranny and the rear end is new. I am pretty good at things like that but I can not seem to find enough info to do it.

they're not to difficlt to do. do a search on here there are links that explode out hte transfer case. that is most of the info you will need. for the most part the case just houses 2 spindles with gears, a chain between them and 2 forks on the main to engage/disengage 4wd and hi/low gear. i did mine myself in a day. truck was stuck in low gear. fork as broken and oil pump seized. wasn't tooo bad.

Ya, that is what I will probably do. I already have an exploded view, I was just wondering if there were step by step instructions.

If you want to go that route, then take a look at these links as well:

What size torx bit do I need to it open? I have heard both 45 and 50? Also I was told that I needed to use 80w90 in my t-case because it gets so hot out here that the ATF is too thin, and that is does not get cold enough so it will be fine. Should I do that?

T50...can't vouch for the 80w90 oil though.

This guy says that it is a t-45? Is that the only special tool I need for this?

I used a T50...you'll also need a really good pair of snap ring pliers and ~31-32 mm socket...or whatever size SAE that is...to get the main nut off (this might be the case only in the flange version output shaft).
