My nice IDI has been givin me some trouble lately. When I start it in the morning, whether it is 60 or 30, I get smoke. It almost always does it. Sometimes more than other times. In any case it goes like this:
Starts in about 1 second.
Couple of puffs of bluish smoke.
couple if seconds of clear exhaust
blue smoke returns (alot) and engine misses (no klack klack) with each puff of blue
when klack klack returns (about 2 minutes), no more smoke (or just a little)
When completly hot, smoke is gone But not as gone as it was 3 months ago when you could see nothing from the exhaust.
I changed the fuel filter a few weeks ago. When I removed it I noticed that the level in the filter was about 1/2 inch down from the rim. ( i did not spill any) I filled it to the top when I replaced it and the engine fired instantly and ran with no smoke AT ALL. Coinsidence?
Injectors? Air in fuel? Any ideas would be appreciated.
You may have disturbed the wire on the coolant temp sens, its down by the goose neck, screwed into the block, with 2 wires on it,it controlls the timing advance and fast idle sols.No timing advance could cause your symptoms.
There is a definite kickdown after about five minutes. The pedal slaps my foot. I think that would mean that the fast idle thing is working. Maybe the advance is not. Does the advance mean the system gets more fuel? Because slight increases in the throttle make the smoke decrease momentarily.
