Towing with a Super Crew
I am thinking of getting a 2000-2002 Super Crew to tow my 5000lbs trailer. What options should I be looking for? I think it only comes with a 3.55 rear end but I may be wrong. Any input would be appreciated.

Look for a factory hitch, 7 or 6 pin wiring with a brake controller, at least a V8 if not the 5.4L, an AUTOMATIC transmission, and a transmission cooler. All of those, except for the engine and transmission, can be added but its always nice to have them already there.

I'd definately go 5.4L, tow package. The tow package will give you the 7 pin wiring and the truck should have come with a pig-tail to hook up to the existing brake controller socket under the dash. It also should have come with (i think) 2 relays for the 12V line to the trailer battery. Hopefully whoever you get it from has it all...I heard it can cost another $40. With something that heavy, I'd get a brake controller too (if it has brakes...is it a RV?). I have the Tekonsha Prodigy, works great! Found it cheapest on RVWholesaler.com.

Look for a truck with the 5.4L and the optional low axle ratio. The lower ratio is quite helpful for pulling, and unlike hitch, wiring, and tranny cooler, it is very expensive to change the axle ratio, especially on a 4x4.
