I was wondering if anyone has experienced this problem. The reason I ask is because I test drove a 05 F-350 6.0 with a 6 speed. Manuals are hard to find on dealer lots. This truck was an XL and I plan on ordering an XLT, but otherwise the truck was setup basically how I want one. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that it seemed to take a while to start. Temperature outside was in the 50's. If this is the nature of the 6.0 I just hate to see it when it gets cold.

How long is is long (in seconds) All 6.0 seem to stay in the starter longer than the 7.3 The first reflash I got on my truck helped, but still seems longer than a 7.3

I drove my 05 a few times 'prior' to taking delivery.. Wanted to make sure there were no problems.. I noticed straight away, that it was a bit hard to start on the 'first' attempt (no heat) and needed some extended cranking or a second attempt.. It was in the high 60's outside.. I also heard here at FTE of other 05 owners that noticed the extended crank times.. Wasn't that bad, but the 03 started much quicker.. After a few miles/days (didn't pay that much attention) it now starts just as quick as the 03 6.0 did..
Temps here in North CA, have been in the high 20's/low 30's overnight and it lites right off..

My '04 will light off almost instantly one time, and then for the next week or two, it takes anywhere from 3 to 6 seconds to fire, and it doesn't seem to be related to temperature at all.
My truck takes a long time to start after it has ran a while. I took it to the dealer and the codes was for ICP sensor and slow pressure built to injectors. They replaced the ICP and the problem is still there. I did a search here and found advise to lower oil level to bottom third of dip stick...I did that and still have the problem. The truck starts right up when cold.
You all are forgetting the High pressure and low pressure oil systems.
High psi system runs the injectors.
Low psi system lube's the engine parts.
Warm weather. lower, or thinner oil. lower psi or slower psi build up to fire the injectors
Colder weather, thicker oil faster psi build. almost instant injection/ instant fire.
Just what I learned right here on FTE.
When warm it can take 6-10 seconds to fire....I understand the cold oil warm oil thing but 10 seconds is hard on the starter. My brother and dad also have 04 6.0's and they don't have this problem.
I just got a new 05 250 6.0. I fist noticed the glow plug light stays on for about 1 sec thewn it out. I can start the truck fast 90 % of the time, the other 10 % it will sit and turn the engine over and never start. On my 7.3 I had the glow plugs ran for aleast 30 to 40 sec. No idea should I take it back or will it get better?
