I'm not really sure either as I questioned it when I heard it, but they were questioning geometry. That's why I asked because it didn't make sense to me either.
Hey StillOuThere, I'd love to see some pics of the stance of your truck. I assume the springs were special order? How much did the springs run? Did you just tell them you wanted 3" lower springs or what? Curious how that works.
Hey Comet,
You know how these projects go - other "needs" turned up. Engine came out for rear main seal and then saw it was ready for a valve job. While that was happening decided to let my body man get started and he found the right side of the bed had been about "recreated" with bondo and I haven't located a donor truck yet. So right now its torn apart - sorry no pics.
Yes, Eaton spring is very easy to talk to. Just call and discuss what you want to do. They have volumes of original specs and blue prints and they work from those to create brand new springs lowered (or raised too I suppose) to your desire. They come with new bushings too. Springs were $224.50 each and I ordered their install kit of new U-bolts too. Then add shipping to you. I've used other new springs from them in the past on other vehicles.
Ok, thanks-good info. Boy do I know how projects can get siderailed. I refuse to let this one have that happen-I know famous last words! But it's gonna be a driver, so I need to work with that (or at least force myself to try).
really useful info i am getting ready to do my 62 ubody same way but it looks like i may have clearance problems on my steering drag link did you run into this problem?
any help would be greatly appreciated.
The reason the axle on top of spring is unsafe is......That there will be a contact patch of about 1/8 inch on the bottom of the axle in contact with the spring. If there is not a fabricated cradle for the bolts and bottom of the beam it stands to reason it can roll out of the mount.
Just like flipping the rear axle it needs additional support pad in place to the bottom of the axle.
Guaranteed you will have tie rod clearance problems on anything over about a 2" drop. That is why Mor-Drop offers their tie rod end drop kit to go with the axle. Others on the market too.
I did not run in any problem like that becuse i have a rack&pinion steering on my truck.I also think you should make sure you have engine oil pan clearence. My oil pan has the hump towards the back of the pan.
