I have a 70 f250 4x4. The dana 24 transfer case needs bearings. The speedometer cable is broke, cable and housing. Right now I am running a divorced np205 out of a 73-77, I think. Should I rebuild the 24 and keep hunting for a speedo cable or if I rebuild the 205 what can I do for a speedo cable? Thanks for your input.
I believe you can still get speedo cables for the D24. They were still available about a year ago anyway.
Either T-case would be great to run. The 205 might be cheaper to rebuild, but like you mentioned about the speedo cable creates an issue. I would stay with the D24.
OEM cables are no longer available for our F250 4x4s. The longest oem cable you can get is 78" long (to short).
There is a place by me called Tacoma Speedometer that will build what ever style speedocable you need. The one that fits our application is 82" long, PN#44270 and costs $38.00 and 10 minutes to build.
Other places priced them around $40-$45 and around 30 minutes to a day to build.
Wow! I've been looking for a speedo cable since I've had my truck. I just 'guess' my speed when I drive. I ran into the same problem - nobody made one. I'll order one this week! Now, if I can only find E-brake cables..
Any personal opinions on which t case is better. My bro swears I should swap to a np205 for my dana 24. I have yet to have problems whit the 24. Tuff Little heavy critter!
