94 Explorer 4WD Electric shift problem

94 Explorer 4WD Electric shift problem
The electric shift on my 1994 Explorer won't work. I push the buttom and get nothing. No clicking noise from the control in the LR wheel well, when I push the white button on the control I get a red light that stays on for about a minute. The fuses are ok. Is there a relay for this motor? I 'm trying to do some checking before I take this into the shop.
I've seen reference to dirty shift motors on this web site. Seems like if it (motor) were getting a signal there would be some noise?
