well accuattly the wife is a new owner 2005 escape 4wd v-6 looks like a nice ride drives good the one time i drove it!
I have a f150 2001 should have a tank as i really abuse it i don't think the escape would hold up to half the punishment i give my f150 i looks to be much more "highway built" have 1000 miles on it so far the only complaint is i was really disappointed to see the same coil-over-plug set up as my f150

Ya the Escape is running a engine / tranny that is about 10 years old.
The Duratec and CD4E tranny have been around for a while, 2006 is supposed to get a 5 spd auto and new 3.5l duratec, I wish I waited but love mine so far.
